Ella C Bernard

Works

Ella C Bernard is a biochemist turned sculptor. Mixing objects, passing light, and moving matter, she stretches her limbs between France, the US, and Germany — sometimes elsewhere, other times nowhere.

In the system we live in, there are materials made to last and others meant to be thrown away almost as soon as they are born. There are also underground networks that underpin what we see and what we use every day. Sometimes, driven by human impulse, things never meant to meet end up finding one another, supporting each other in a fragile yet enduring moment. These encounters can also become intriguing sculptures, showing the playful side of resistance. Part of a larger material constellation, moma and Sun appear here to remind us not only that the fragile is durable, but that the generic also has a strong personality.
