Nooshin Askari

Works

Nooshin Askari  is an artist and glossarist on decoration as form. The entry example of مُو َشَّح (Muwash’shah) - meaning an adorned necklace or a belt - is a figure of speech whereby the poet scatters gilded letters of a word or a sentence in a geometric, plant or animal motif throughout the lines as an allegorical commentary.

With a text by Sanabel Abdelrahman

Nooshin Askari’s pencil drawings move between ornament and object. Ornamental structures and forms that at times evoke walls, facades, or architectural fragments are interrupted by objects such as teapots or by disorienting, glitch-like shifts. In a continuous play between the emergence and dissolution of form, the works resist any fixed reading. Forms become figures, signs turn into things, and backgrounds move into the foreground. The resulting sense of disorientation is accompanied by a subtle playfulness, drawing attention to the instability of perception, which is never objective but always relational, situated, and shaped by time, space, and individual experience.
