Nona Inescu is fascinated with mutations, anomalies, and curiosities. Her sculptures, photographs and videos explore the interconnectedness of environments and their entities, as well as how they shape vulnerable bodies. Her work focuses on symbiotic visions of the Earth in which the boundaries between humans and more-than-human entities that shape the material world begin to blur.
Can a hand merge with a plant or be absorbed by a flower? Can two palm branches embrace and touch each other like two hands intertwining their fingers? In Rosa Canina and Brugmansia, Nona Inescu uses tactile exploration of nature to build bridges between the human world and nature. The hand becomes an agent and material that influences the environment, while also being shaped by it. In The Cathedral, plants and steel come together to form an arch like in a Gothic cathedral—a reference to Auguste Rodin's sculpture of the same name depicting two hands about to intertwine. The palm branches attached to the steel are a reflection of the metamorphosis, durability, and vulnerability of the materials that surround us. They are delicate gestures that grow alternative ecosystems and gardens, hybrids that reflect the harmonies and tensions that interconnect us.

Uglier, Louder, Taller, Weirder – Hearing the Weeds grow / Das Unkraut wachsen hören ist die zweite Ausstellung im Rahmen des Projekts Louder, Taller, Uglier, Weirder – Learning from Weeds / Von Unkraut lernen, die das Unkraut aus dem Schatten des Dickichts holt und es ins Zentrum einer neuen Erzählung stellt. Unkraut erscheint hier nicht nur als Untersuchungsgegenstand, Medium oder Metapher, sondern wird zu einem aktiven Prinzip, zu einem selbstbestimmten Adjektiv und Verb. Wir fragen: Wann ist etwas, eine Handlung, ein Zustand „verunkrautet“? Was bedeutet es, aktiv zu „unkrauten“ in Kunst, in Institutionen, in Sprache und im Alltag?
